During this past Monday’s edition of WWE RAW, Shayna Baszler became the first woman to compete in the new RAW Underground segment.
RAW Underground is WWE’s new shoot-style fight club segment hosted by Shane McMahon. Baszler was heavily featured during the latest edition which aired this past Monday.
Baszler single-handedly decimated three opponents which included independent wrestlers Marina Tucker and Sofia Castillo, as well as NXT superstar Emily Andzulis. The latter was submitted by Baszler but is known to have martial arts experience, having previously trained in various combat sports including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
During the recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live, it was reported that Andzulis was told by WWE officials not to utilize any of her MMA skills when facing Baszler, with the organization telling her that she had to look clueless against the former NXT Women’s Championship.
Andzulis has a 0-1 record in amateur MMA competition. She made her WWE debut at an NXT Live Show earlier this year. Baszler meanwhile is considered a pioneer within the sport of MMA, having competed as a professional for nearly fifteen years and finishing with a 15-11-0 record.
RAW Underground features during episodes of WWE RAW every Monday on the USA Network from 8 pm ET.
